Rooted in Kisii, growing with love — discover the journey of Mojake Orphanage.
Mojake Orphanage was founded in 2015 by local elders and educators who saw a growing need to care for children who had lost their parents due to illness, poverty, and hardship. The name Mojake comes from the Swahili words "Moyo" (heart) and "Jake" (his/her) — meaning "their heart" — a place where every child's heart is nurtured.
Deeply rooted in the Kisii community, we began in a small rented house with just five children. Through the generosity of neighbours, churches, and international supporters, we have grown into a loving home for over 50 children, while staying true to our local values of obosiemo (compassion) and obwato (togetherness).
Our philosophy is inspired by the African Baobab — a tree that provides shelter, food, and wisdom.
Just as the Baobab stands tall and provides for its community, Mojake Orphanage is a place of stability, growth, and nourishment. Our roots are the Kisii community and our founders. The trunk is our dedicated staff who provide daily care. Our branches reach out to sponsors, volunteers, and partners who help us grow. And the fruit are the children who, once nurtured, will give back to their community.
We believe in holistic growth: mind (education), body (health & nutrition), and spirit (emotional support & cultural pride). Every child is encouraged to stay connected to their heritage while gaining skills for a bright future.
Every child deserves to feel loved, safe, and valued.
Education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty.
We treat every child with kindness, respect, and dignity.
We believe in the power of togetherness and shared responsibility.
The heart of Mojake is our dedicated staff — local caretakers, social workers, and leaders.
